Though only ten, Ty Waters is poised for greatness in American popular music. This child prodigy singer from Vancouver, Canada, has already wowed artists from Michael Bublé to Stevie Wonder, performed at the infamous Carnegie Hall four times and won American Protege’s Vocal Competitions. Here are a couple more recent ways he stands out:
But what stands out about Ty Waters, is what he has overcome to be in the position he is today. Born in Vancouver to Filipino parents, he reached the age of two with delayed speech. There would be a two-year wait before he could take advantage of public health system’s speech therapy treatment. His parents investigated alternatives, including music therapy. So they improvised, teaching Ty various nursery rhymes. To their surprise, Ty started to jazz up these nursery rhymes on his own. His parents recognized his interest in singing and started showing him clip after clip of classic pop performances by the likes of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Lionel Richie, and Etta James. The effect was instantaneous. Young Ty began mimicking rhythms, melodies and words perfectly, shattering what had seemed an insurmountable challenge in speech.

Plunky & Oneness continue their decades long output of extraordinary music with their latest album, Juju Jazz Funk. Produced by band master, J. Plunky Branch, with son, Fire, the new album is a distinctive and notable collection of melodies and messages for modern music lovers. Juju Jazz Funk contains nine original songs, along with two bonus tracks recorded live at a 2016 summer concert when the group performed with George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic.
Plunky, the ageless sage (think Quincy Jones, Hugh Masekela and George Clinton), recently published his autobiography, Juju Jazz Funk & Oneness. Though released separately, the new CD is the book’s companion piece. Together, the two works document the fusion of Plunky’s musical and philosophical visions. The range of cross-generational creativity is on full display in the variety of the grooves and the consciousness raising songs on Juju Jazz Funk. The album represents an intersection of current and cutting-edge. There are two contemporary jazz pieces on the album: “Move Forward,” a funky instrumental just right for a party or smooth jazz radio playlist; and “One Love One Us,” a soulful excursion featuring the lyrics and vocals of Charlayne “Chyp” Green, Plunky’s longtime creative collaborator. Straight-up, old school funk is represented by new versions of two previously released songs: “This Is Our Time,” written by Plunky; and “Plastic (Is Easy to See Through),” penned by Plunky’s brother, Muzi, a mainstay, of the group for over 40 years. While these two songs were written decades ago, the funk and their messages are as timely and relevant as ever. The underlying meaning in Plunky’s “Seize the Time” is simple, direct and moving. While the mood of the song is somber R&B, the message is uplifting.
Cody Joe Hodges started playing music at an early age, but it wasn’t until his senior year in high school that he became serious about his art. Impassioned by country greats from the 70’s and 80’s, Cody Joe wrote his first song, “Daddy’s Dream”, his freshman year in the dorms at Texas A&M University.
Not long after graduating from A&M in 2006, the young talent parachuted into Nashville, where he found a place to stay with Jay Andrews, a pedal steel guitar player with a distinguished résumé (worked with Johnny Paycheck for many years). Cody Joe landed a job on Broadway (Nashville) in ‘06, where he worked several venues - and every once in a while, was allowed the opportunity of sitting in with one of the bands. After a short stay in Nashville, he decided to move back to Texas, take a break from music, and joined the Army. While in the Army, he was performing original music with a homeless man on a street corner in Colorado Springs, CO and was discovered by a military affiliate. He was then asked to audition for one of the Army’s music groups, “Harmony in Motion,” a vocal ensemble based out of Fort Carson, Colorado. After auditioning with “The National Anthem” and an original tune, “Daddy’s Dream”, they extended an offer to join them, and Cody Joe began traveling across America playing for large entertainment venues and private military events. Upon discharge, his dad (a veteran lineman) had a talk with him about a career in the power line business (as a lineman). This sounded like something exciting and also a great opportunity to draw upon for songwriting, so he returned to the energy field in 2010. At the same time, he started a band with the help of his buddy, Dan Kuciemba, and a couple of students from Texas A&M, Tyler Gregg and Matt Westwick. Calling themselves “The Linemen”, they teamed up with legendary Pedal Steel Guitist - Steve Palousek and came out with their first album as a band in 2012. In 2012, everything started to take a different turn with each member leaving the band for various reasons. In the spring of 2013, Cody Joe decided to exit out of the power line business and focus energy on his music as a solo artist, putting faith in whatever plans God had for him. It has been a blessing thus far, with his first recording contract signed in Dec. ’13 (Tate Music Group - Oklahoma). Cody Joe Hodges released “The Good Stuff” album in November 2014, in which 6 songs he co-wrote with his wife Jamie. Cody Joe’s debut radio release “Getting Back to Country” (co-written with Jamie) from the album, “The Good Stuff”, was a success on the Texas Charts. It peaked at #24 on the Texas Regional Radio Report and #26 on the Texas Music Chart. It also hit #12 on the International Country Music Chart, and #1 on the Fan-Voted Chart (the first Texas artist to reach #1 on the charts since it’s inception in 1998). In 2014, Cody Joe teamed up with Lamon Records, a Sony independent label out of Nashville,Tennessee to record a four song EP entitled “One More Drink”. The EP was released May 5, 2015, along with the EP’s titled single, “One More Drink” (co-written with Jamie) and a music video. "One More Drink" hit #1 on the International Country Music Chart". Cody Joe Hodges was named the 2016 Male Rising Star of the Year by the Country Music Association of Texas. JAD is a young, driven, creative writer that carries a message for the world. Brought together by a passion for music and unity in the face of adversity, Adam’s Attic inspires listeners with an honest and open sound. From their New Orleans roots to their current home of Los Angeles, the alternative, pop/rock band has matured musically and captivated audiences on a global scale. The band of brothers wrapped their fifth international tour in 2014.
“While here (New Orleans), the band proved itself to be one of the rising stars on the scene,” remarked Todd Miller, Talent Buyer for House of Blues. In August 2005, one of the five deadliest hurricanes in U.S. history struck the north-central Gulf Coast region destroying much of their home in New Orleans. Through the devastation, Adam’s Attic was forced out of its comfort zone and responded by bonding together and stepping out on a limb. Joe Henry, Adam’s Attic front man, said, “Some of us lost everything we had, with the exception of our music gear and some personal items; all of the venues we played were closed or out of business. Only a week before Katrina, we were given the most amazing opportunity to open for Lifehouse at House of Blues New Orleans. We had to act.” Leaving behind everything they had built in the hopes of recreating past successes, the musicians moved across the country and settled in California. Adam’s Attic had nothing but their gear and souls brimming with emotions. Spun Intended
