Silent Stranger was a band from 1982 to 1988. Playing gigs around our local area, we got into writing original material around 1986 to 1988, which would be near the end of our time together, so we decided to record them in a local studio. Regular day jobs caused the band to split after the recording session in 1988. I kept writing after that but didn’t have the resources to get past the demo stage of recording until 2015 when I began booking studio time to record my past demos and new songs. These songs are available on the debut album from Silent Stranger through CD Baby, for preview or to purchase by selecting the link below.

Steve Oriet wants so much to put Windsor on the map, he’s heading to Nashville.
Later this month, the local up-and-coming singer-songwriter is packing his bags and his talents and heading south to launch his country music career. “With everything that’s going on, my head’s in a bit of a spin,” Oriet said. He will be working with Nashville-based songwriter Steve O’Brien on two new songs. He’s also teaming with Gary Bradshaw at the music promotion company Beyond the Song to connect him with more than 10,000 radio stations. Oriet hopes his first single will be on the charts in April. “I really, really, really, really want to have a country song that becomes a hit so I can say, ‘It came from Windsor,’” he said in a phone interview. “I want to bring Windsor into country music.” Country singer Steve Oriet of Windsor is travelling to Nashville hoping to launch a career. NICK BRANCACCIO / WINDSOR STAR It all started when he heard Jason Aldean’s hit song Why on Country Music Television. Oriet said he begged his father, who plays guitar, to teach him to play so he could learn that song. “I had tried multiple times to learn to play the guitar,” Oriet said, but to no avail. “My dad said to me, ‘This is the last time I’m going to try teaching you!’” But this time, Oriet worked up to six hours a day practising the guitar until he mastered it. Then came the singing. “I never even knew I could sing,” he said with a laugh. Oriet said his father teased him when he sang along with the radio, calling him “tone deaf.” But he practised hard to hit the right notes. “I would make a quick 30-second video and flip it back and listen to it,” he said. “And I’d think, ‘OK, wow, that sucks. But I can change this or that.’” Oriet said his intense work ethic and attention to detail brings out the best in his performance. “It didn’t come naturally to me,” he said. “It comes out ugly 100 times before it comes out good.” It came out so well that Oriet was invited to play at one of North America’s top country music hotspots. Oriet travelled to Nashville in 2015, and performed at the world-famous Tootsies Orchid Lounge. Playing the lounge is a milestone in the careers of many famous country stars including Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Patsy Cline. “There must have been a few hundred people in there, I imagine,” Oriet said. His friend filmed the performance, and Oriet’s nerves made it onto the B-roll. “He didn’t know he had his camera on already, but there was a little audio just while the camera was focused on the ground of me going, ‘Oh my God, I’m super nervous,’” Oriet said. “But we got in there and it was awesome.” Oriet is holding a fundraiser at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12 at 2090 Brant St., in Windsor on March 12 at 3 p.m. to help offset the costs of his return to Nashville. Attendees will enjoy a pasta dinner, a 50/50 draw, and live music from Oriet and his father, Gary. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children, available at the door. http://windsorstar.com/news/local-news/photos-steve-oriet-performs-in-the-news-cafe https://us.eventbu.com/windsor/steve-oriet-at-windsor-beer-exchange/559930.amp Jennifer Hanson will release her first new music in nine years with the Christmas EP, Under the Tree, up for pre-sale beginning October 12, and with an official release date of November 3, 2017. Hanson penned two of the EP’s songs, the uptempo “Only Thing I Really Need” and the title track. The four song set also features Hanson’s arrangement of “What Child Is This” and Jennifer at the age of three and a half belting out “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” thanks to the recording skills of her dad Larry.
"Christmas has always been a special time of year at our house and there was never a minute that there wasn’t music,” Hanson said. “It wasn’t unusual for Dad to pop in a cassette and record everything going on, and I’m so thankful he did, because finding this cassette of me as a little kid singing this song with such gusto and spirit inspired me to do this EP. It’s great to get back in the studio and record music. I predict there will be more to come.” Hanson burst onto the music scene in 2003 with the release of her self-titled debut album on Capitol Records. The lead single, “Beautiful Goodbye,” became the highest charting debut single by a new female artist for that year. And while Hanson made a solid impact as a recording artist, it has always been her songwriting that assured her success in an ever-changing industry. Hanson’s artistry and songs have garnered ACM, CMT and GRAMMY nominations, as well as numerous BMI, SESAC and NSAI awards. Collectively, her songs have sold millions of albums worldwide. She wrote the #1 song “Leave the Pieces,” the debut single for Michelle Branch and Jessica Harp of The Wreckers, as well as the debut single for American Idol finalist Bucky Covington, “A Different World,” which went on to become a top 5 hit on the Billboard charts. Hanson celebrated her second #1 single with her self-penned song “Let Me Down Easy,” recorded by Billy Currington. She also wrote the title track to the movie “Country Strong,” performed by Gwyneth Paltrow. She has had songs recorded by artists such as pop sensation Kelly Clarkson, country music superstars Rascal Flatts, The CW’s One Tree Hill actress and singer Jana Kramer, rising country music star Mickey Guyton and country legends Pam Tillis, Vince Gill and Don Williams, to name a few. F T H Music is pleased to announce the initial release of David Wall.
We chose an original song, A Memory In Every Note, co-written by David. The song showcases the writing abilities of David. It's hard to believe David has written only a hand full of songs. Yet David's first release is filled with compassion, with a heart tugging message that will start the memories of the past rolling through your mind. David was able to add tremendous feeling to the song as he wrapped himself into those songs that held fond memories in his own past. David Wall was born in Winston Salem, NC and after several other stops, his family ended up in Chattanooga, TN. As a youngster, 8 years old, he became interested in music and started singing around the house. His parents were impressed so they found him a music teacher. Those lessons were short lived as the family moved to Huntsville, Alabama. It was there David met the famous Alton Delmore, of the Delmore Brothers. Thrilled by the presence of Alton, David's interest in music peaked. Events in his life lead him on to the year 2016. Then, David finished his first gospel song, and had the good fortunate of singing his song in his hometown church. Again, fires of songwriting started burning brightly. Locating other songwriters, he was encouraged to write for the love of the trade. He did. It is our hope that you agree that David has earned the title of singer/songwriter. And his first recorded project showcases his skills and feelings to both write and sing a song sure to touch the lives of many. We thought the song, A Memory In Every Note, written by David Wall and George Wells, would be a exciting song for David's first release. Songs are so related to our past. Everyone remembers songs for their own reasons. Like landmarks, these songs hold the memories of our most favorite events. Those musical memories live with us forever. We depend on these songs even though they will call up a few tears. It is a wonderful stroll down memory lane with the notes and words we love to hear. How blessed we are to have music to hold the memories for us. To give David a good starting point, we used the arranging and mixing abilities of studio owner Billy Teichmiller. He brought in some of Huntsville's best music talent. To add the finishing touches, we called Donny Carpenter, of Muscle Shoals fame, to add his outstanding fiddle abilities to our song. He knows exactly where the teardrop should start. And the back -up vocals were added by the premiere back up vocalist in Huntsville, Hershey Reeves. So, please give a special listen for the talents of these two professionals. Mp3 copies of the song is available at CD Baby.com, Amazon and iTunes, as well as many other digital sales points on the internet. For more information on David Wall and his song, Memory In Every Note, please contact [email protected].
Secrets and Ruins, by Lightning Hall is comprised of eight original songs painted with an acoustic guitar’s roots, folk and blues brush. They are inspired by the ghost towns of the West and Southwest and the recent “Great Recession’s” similarities to the Great Depression of the thirties. Secrets and Ruinsincludes songs with a full rhythm section. Parts of the music could be put in the “contemporary Americana” category so popular today, but “roots music” might be more apt. The songs and other media related to this release are here: http://lightninghall.artistpr.com/secrets-and-ruins/ using the password: xvta9NP
The release opens with “Chasing Sunshine,” with a bluesy, chugging rhythm underpinning some fleet finger style and slide work on a resonator guitar. Harmonica accompanies the story of a young man who’s taken to riding trains during the depression in search of opportunity, as many did. “Fat Chance City” is an upbeat song about going to a place with a lot of opportunity, and knowing that many other people are going there as well. Think of the early gold rush, or perhaps WWII era Chicago. Bluesy leads and a shuffle rhythm carry this one along, and it’s all acoustic. “Pickup Truck” is an Americana-like song with a rolling beat and slide work from an acoustic resonator guitar. It is the life story of a pickup, as related by the truck itself. With “Pulling Up Track,” the songs change to a contemporary folk-style voice. It’s a love song about a couple apart who sometime soon will be reunited, as their “gold rush” era town slowly dwindles, the ore running out. “Dust of the Dance,” with minor key guitar accompaniment, takes a poetic, idealistic look at life in a small old west town, and it’s predecessors. “Step Into the Sunset” another lush minor key song, is inspired by the idea of finding a notebook in the Southwestern desert and the story it contains of a man’s attempt to return to his loved one, and it’s uncertain success. “Old Friends” is a folksy song about a sturdy woman’s life alone in the mountains, with more fleet fingered minor key stylings. “Get Out’a That Rut” comes from a rather different place, seemingly inspired by the rough, bluesy folk mixes of a band like the Mississippi Sheiks. Using the metaphor of a dirt road, It tells of a time like the Depression when luck runs out and one has no choice but to push on. The mix is comprised of fluent acoustic resonator guitar rhythm and fills, harmonica and steel string acoustic guitar. The artist’s more than capable vocals support all of these song’s messages. Lightning Hall is committed to creating and performing quality original music with an original voice that is rooted in American music. He refuses to be a “walking jukebox” of the endlessly rehashed Contemporary Top 40 and Classic Rock tunes so many bands perform, preferring to present covers of music less often heard, and with an authentic and individual take. Secrets and Ruins is completely self produced. ### About: Lightning Hall is an artist who blends the soulful sound of early acoustic blues with folk, roots rock and other styles. Like revered jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt he playsin spite of serious burn injuries to his hands, and plays well. A regular performer in the Albuquerque, NM area for several years. He grew up in the Gulf Coast city of Galveston, TX where he acquired a taste for blues, southern rock, country, R&B Southern music in general. He has been described as a “very compelling blues artist” and one with “impeccable guitar work and a soulful voice” by blues-biz insiders and local promoters. A good look at the photograph adorning the sleeve of this new offering from Nanaimo stalwarts the Glen Foster Group reveals clues as to the music the CD within holds. In what appears to be a musical laboratory, a gentleman in bright yellow safety clothing and hardhat is lowering various brass instruments into a ‘radioactive’ hopper, the resultant alchemy producing a gleaming gold bar from the outlet beneath. Supervising the process, Foster, wearing a lanyard and holding a clipboard, is holding one of these bars, as if checking it for quality or purity.
Simply put, the image is a metaphor for Foster’s new sonic direction on the excellent Music Alchemy. Interestingly, he has deemed it ‘an experiment,’ but I see it as such a successful one he should continue in this vein if resources allow! Powered along by a 7-piece brass section, this release is an all-star affair on which Foster has thrown absolutely everything into the pot for a most rewarding listen. Taking cues from classic Stax, Atlantic, the musical heritage of New Orleans, a touch of funk and even a little country, Music Alchemy is by far Foster’s most fully realized project to date. Aside from his regular band the singer-songwriter-guitarist has recruited a veritable who’s who of respected local rock, blues and jazz veteran talent, amounting (including the brass section) to 21 guest contributors in all. At times reminiscent of such as Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes and their rock-soul ilk, Music Alchemy is most certainly all killer, no filler. Every song has been meticulously arranged and features one or more of the guest musicians, either soloing or making a telling rhythmic or melodic contribution, and it all adds up to a powerful collection. To this end there are some truly thrilling moments, such as the wonderful bridge in Blue Monkey; David Gogo’s searing solo on the fun Cactus Whiskey & Alligator Steak (the sleeve design also featuring an alligator, I might add); the honky-tonk vibe of Stepping Out on Saturday Night, and the all-hands-on-deck brilliance of the inventive instrumental closer, Groove Eleven. Lyrically, although there is a little introspection in the superior ballad Why in the World, Music Alchemy never gets too serious, a factor that greatly benefits the overall soul party mood. The aforementioned Cactus Whiskey… is a lighthearted look at survival in the bayou, and there is even a witty ode to the popular Italian liqueur, Sambuca. All in all everyone involved with this ambitious recording seems to be having a great time, and the consequence is quite simply a rock solid and natural sounding album that should see Foster’s stock rise even higher. Going back to that sleeve image and Foster’s apparent inspection of the product in his hands, it seems to me that the quality and purity of that gold bar in his hands are extremely high, perhaps even 24 karats! " Stand Up! Fight Back!" is a protest song in the vein of Jefferson Airplane and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Inspried by the Women's March the day after the inauguration, Wendy wrote a blistering anthem that puts you right in the center of the march. Listen, join in the chanting, this song will stay with you. Wendy has been singing and playing guitar all her life. She can move deftly in and out of genres from classic and and blues to punk or folk. She has released five full-length albums and multiple singles. With her blues band, Late Summer Purple, Wendy performed twice at Bumbershoot, the Mother of All Art Festivals.
Wendy's songs are supported with profound guitar work by Don Mills of Seattle. |
