A Cappella Group VoicePlay Mashup Ed Sheeran’s "Shape of You" with Blackstreet’s “No Diggity”3/31/2017 Florida-based a cappella quintet and theater group, VoicePlay have released their brand new video mashup of Ed Sheeran’s "Shape of You" mixed with Blackstreet’s now classic hit “No Diggity.”
There’s a moment in the bridge of Ed Sheeran’s infectious and ubiquitous tune, "Shape of You" that mirrors the shout chorus of BlackStreet’s now-classic hit, “No Diggity,” and the two songs seemed to be begging to be mixed up and twisted into something greater than their parts. Anyone who is an eager fan of ear-friendly pop songs will immediately understand how well the melody of "Shape of You" works over “No Diggity’s” shuffle style beat. VoicePlay has a refreshingly different take on Sheeran's fantastically well-written song and hopefully, the video, featuring LA-based guest vocalist Matt Darren, adds to the magic of the music. About VoicePlay: Based in Orlando, FL, VoicePlay is unlike any theatrical experience available today. Recreating the orchestrated sound of an entire musical production with nothing but the human voice. After rising to prominence competing on Season 4 of NBC’s “The Sing-Off” television show, VoicePlay has amassed more than 20 million views on their growing YouTube channel. The cast of VoicePlay has taken the timeless sound of vocal music and turned it completely on its head. What began quite literally as a street corner barbershop act has now evolved into an internationally acclaimed touring sensation and video entertainment brand. Luke is an artist / songwriter from the UK who’s making a buzz with his songs. He cites “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls as the song that, the moment he heard it playing, made him realize he wanted to be a songwriter. Shortly after, at the age of 17, Luke picked up an acoustic guitar for the first time and started writing songs not only about love but also about growing up… Other artists that have influenced Luke include the likes of Jimmy Eat World, Jason Mraz, Fountains of Wayne, Bleu, Goo Goo Dolls and the music of his father who played in bands way back when…! R&B hit-maker Daley is set to release his upcoming studio album The Spectrum via BMG. For his second full-length album, Daley draws on professional and personal experiences from the last two years, including the loss of close friend and manager Richard Antwi. With this release, Daley has unlocked the next chapter of his musical journey with renewed inspiration... and eagerly-awaited new music. To read more details on the release, CLICK HERE for Daley's exclusive interview with Billboard.
For the first single "Until The Pain Is Gone," Daley teamed up with none other than the R&B queen Jill Scott to create a love song that reflects the bittersweet push-pull of being vulnerable in love. "Having Jill involved is an honor," Daley explains. "She’s royalty in my eyes- someone I’ve looked up to musically from a very malleable stage in my songwriting career. When I was just starting to understand how to put my feelings into song, Jill was one of a handful of influential artists who’s music helped me figure out how to channel that." Working with one of his greatest inspirations came about after Daley opened one of Jill Scott's shows in London. "She was really kind and encouraging and we stayed in touch," he says. "In the studio writing this song I just had a feeling… kept hearing Jill’s voice as the song developed, like it was asking for her energy. I’ve learned to trust those gut feelings when they occur, so after a little hesitation I sent it to her for her thoughts… and was thrilled to receive a reply that she loved it! She took it and interpreted it in her own amazingly soulful way, and it was done." And here it is...!
The debut self-titled solo album ALONSO is the story of passion, of Love, of loss, and of the oh-so-relatable intimate realization of purpose in a self-expressed journey. This story begins a long time ago though. It swims in the pool of emotion that everyone that has been in love swims in. There's a palpable sincerity in the romance that these songs express. From the album's love-at-first-sight opening line "I'm floating away..." through to the encapsulating last lyric "...Here. Now. On" the message makes itself beautifully clear. Love is no minor venture. And to experience it in intimate terms is a profound, life changing experience. Relatable? Very. Arresting? Of course.
Although ALONSO doesn't draw from any obvious influences, it's not unlikely, upon first listen that one is reminded of the emotion that Seal and Sade expressed consistently throughout their musical journeys. Mix that mood in half with the art school derived panache of David Sylvian and Peter Gabriel, blended with the lyrical profundity of Leonard Cohen and you might be able to pin this aesthetic. Of course, considering the innovative electro-latin-jazz rhythmic elements juxta-apposed to the ubiquitous and emotional Spanish guitar playing that's present on each of the seven songs on this album, and you might reasonably catch whiffs of Bon Iver, Banners, David Blake, and the world beat of Jesse Cook and David Byrne (to put those melancholic Spanish guitars and moody vocal melodies in context). But this story started long ago... as the founding member, principle songwriter and uniquely asserted Chapman Stickist of the iconic Toronto alternative band Glueleg; ALONSO recorded and released three albums in the 1990's for EMI Canada. With these critically acclaimed albums, eight Canadian National tours (including countless supporting shows with Our Lady Peace, I Mother Earth and The Tea Party, in 2000+ seat venues) a solid and positively consistent impression was left with audiences across the country. And then, over time, something special happened... as fans steeped in the music, a cult following was born. 20 years later, Glueleg's albums can still be heard on commercial and college radio stations, and in the homes of diehard fans of the band across Canada to this day. Further, the hit single "Heroic Doses" still receives regular international TV exposure as it was featured in an episode of the classic Canadian TV series "Due South" through syndication in Scandinavia, Western Europe, Central America and South East Asia. ALONSO was written and recorded throughout 2016 and meticulously produced by James Stewart. The attention to detail in the performances and final mixes where done with a craft that was wielded by a expert. Having produced and engineered 2 of the 4 Glueleg albums, including "Heroic Doses", and albums for the Barenaked Ladies, Kim Mitchell and Holly Cole, James has poured his passion thoroughly over every inch of this music. And then, tragically, James passed away. On the second last session of the final mixes of this album. Several months were spent mourning his loss, and painstakingly completing the final touches of his mixes. As per James' desires, the album was mastered in Toronto by João Carvalho. This album is dedicated to the memory of James.
Growing up on the Nordic coastline, producer Carl Louis has spent much of his career broadening his musical horizons with a number of notable credits to his name. Originally a member of electronic duoCLMD, Louis co-produced a number of notable releases including ‘Stockholm Syndrome’, which went multi-platinum in Norway and was also premiered on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show. Afterward, Louis left the group in 2014 to pursue his own personal ambitions.
Having spent the last few years producing singles for other artists, including ARY’s debut single ‘Higher’, as well as releasing his own mini-album in 2015, Lewis has now returned to deliver his latest full-length ‘Memory Lane’. While its title may suggest a more nostalgic sound, his latest material is a smorgasbord of contemporary influences and inspirations. With a largely classical direction, the mix of ideas and directions on his latest release are clear throughout. Whether it is the ‘Random Access Memories’-era Daft Punk sound of ‘Human Being’ or the uplifting trip-hop style of ‘Easy’, ‘Memory Lane’ manages to gather together a whole range of sounds and is able to pull off a cohesive release. New single ‘Easy’ sees the producer create an uplifting and powerful introduction, which sees him collaborate once again with Spotify Spotlight artist and ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ vocalist Frøder, and is out now with the album to follow 26th May 2017 via Toothfairy (NOR). Canadian singer songwriter Stephanie Braganza has released the official music video for her new rock single, ‘Chains of Silence.’ The animal rights-themed video’s release coincides with World Day for Farmed Animals (WDFA), which was founded in 1983.
The new single is a jaw-dropping story of an alien abduction with a surprising twist. The thought-provoking video houses a powerful message and promises to incite discussion amongst its viewers. ‘Chains of Silence’ also marks Braganza’s first foray into the rock genre. The song was written by Braganza and her co-writer, Kolin Stewart. The track was co-produced with John Allen, the co-producer behind Braganza’s last hit single, ‘When We Last Kissed – ft. Drega.’ Chris Strikes, the director of Kardinal Offishall’s award-winning music video, ‘Turn It Up,’ was also brought on board to help envision the music video concept that Braganza and Stewart created. “When Stephanie pitched the concept of the video to me,” Strikes detailed, “I immediately said, ‘let’s do it!’ It was an awesome idea and I was very excited to be on board.” For Strikes, one of the most important elements of approaching the project was creating thought-provoking visuals that also cause the viewer to take a moment and feel compassion toward animals. To date, Braganza’s repertoire has been a blend of pop and dance music. Now, with rock holstered in her belt, the performer is continuing to prove her diverse musicality. The songstress’ resume includes a long list of performances as well, such as performing with rap artists Belly and Ginuwine at the Much Music Video Awards. Following that, she debuted the video premiere of her first two international singles, ‘2 Good 2 Be’ and ‘When We Last Kissed – ft. Drega,’ presented by V-MIX TV. Braganza’s powerhouse vocals and experience on the stage helped her win the Toronto Independent Music Award for Best Live Artist. In fact, the vocalist has performed in a wide array of settings throughout her career, including a private event at the Art Gallery of Ontario which was attended by former president George W. Bush. Braganza has also performed at top festivals like Indie Music Week, DesiFest, and the Toronto VegFoodFest. On top of all of that, Braganza has appeared at notable venues like Casino Rama, Casino Niagara, The Mod Club, The Canadian National Exhibition Center, and Yonge & Dundas Square. Her television appearances include Rogers TV ‘Daytime,’ ‘South Asian Focus,’ ‘TV-ONE Canada,’ and more. The Cranberries are set to release Something Else, a new album featuring re-worked renditions of their major hits, as well as brand new material. The album is due out April 28 via BMG on digital and CD formats, and includes seminal Cranberries songs like "Linger," "Zombie," "Dreams," and "Ode To My Family"... re-recorded in orchestral and acoustic arrangements. The album is now available for pre-order.
Something Else celebrates the 25th anniversary of the band. Their first major U.S. hit "Linger" has been re-done acoustically, and just premiered on Rolling Stone! On the album concept and choice of "Linger" as the first single, The Cranberries' singer-songwriter Dolores O’Riordan explains, "'Linger' was the first song The Cranberries ever wrote together. I was 17, and the youngest member of the band was 15 at the time. We never imagined it'd be such a big hit, but soon us teenagers found ourselves on our first flight to the United States to shoot the video in Downtown LA. That video would introduce us to American households, in the good old days of MTV! The bittersweet love song still holds all that sentimentality for us personally, which is why we had to include it on this project. Universally, I think its message remains timeless and relevant, never going out of fashion, yet never quite in fashion. It's amazing to have a song hold up 25 years later, and I hope this acoustic version allows our fans to hear a Cranberries classic in a new way." "Linger " is available now for download and streaming. The full album is available for pre-order on digital and CD formats.
